Meet Our Dentists
A little about our Dentists...
At Simon Dental we are fortunate to have three dentists on staff, Dr. Mark Simon, Dr. Christine Cho, and Dr. Leslie Linsday. We are also very fortunate to have an anesthesiologist, Dr. Gary Simon, an orthodontist, Dr. Mauricio Berco, a periodontist, Dr. David Leung, and a denturist, Doug McKittrick.
Dr. Mark Simon
Dr. Simon grew up and received his early education in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor Of Science Degree and his Dental Degree in 1990.
Dr. Simon opened his first practice in Newmarket in 1991.
Eight years later he opened the much larger and professionally designed Simon Dental Centre. This new facility allows for all services and facets of family, cosmetic and specialty dentistry. In past, Dr. Simon was an instructor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry. Currently in addition to his Newmarket practice he has courtesy privileges in the Department of Surgery at York Central Hospital. Dr. Simon spends one day a month assisting major Oral Maxillofacial Surgery including jaw fracture, jaw reconstruction and correction of dental facial deformities.
Dr. Simon is also active in the community associated with charity fund raisers and sponsors a number of sports teams.
Dr. Christine Cho
Dr. Christine was born in Korea and raised in Toronto. She attended the University of Toronto where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and her Dental Degree in 2003. Dr. Christine completed a year of residency at the Hospital for Sick Children where she had an opportunity to treat many patients with both chronic and acute illnesses. She joined the Simon Dental Team in July 2003 and has been treating many families in all areas of general dentistry.
Dr. Leslie Lindsay
Dr. Lindsay was born and raised in Saint John, New Brunswick. She attended the Univeristy of New Brunswick where she received her Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry.
Dr. Lindsay went on to attend the Univeristy of Western Ontario where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1992. Dr. Lindsay and her family have lived in the community in which they work for over ten years. She looks forward to meeting both new and existing patients of the Simon Dental Centre.
Dr. David Leung, Periodontist
Dr. Leung was raised in Toronto, Ontario where he attended Upper Canada College for 11 years. Afterwards he attended New York University where he received degrees in Finance and Biochemistry. After his undergraduate degrees, he moved to Philadelphia where he attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, receiving his doctorate and periodontics training.
After 11 years away he moved back to Toronto to spend more time with his family and to enjoy his hobbies. Dr. Leung is an avid cook, particularly in asian seafood cuisine and he enjoys art galleries, museums and playing baseball and volleyball in his spare time.
Dr. Leung has a comprehensive background in periodontics, prosthodontics and orthodontics. He has been placing dental implants since 2001, and is a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto. He has lectured at numerous schools and conferences in the United States.
Dr. Leung is a Certified Periodontist. He is eager to join our team to provide periodontal services on site to our patients.
Dr. Gary Simon, MD FRCPC
Dr. Gary is our anesthesiologist. He graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in Halifax. He subsequently did his specialty training in anesthesiology in Edmonton at the University of Alberta. Currently, he is in active practice at London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario.
Dr. Gary has offered his services as Simon Dental's anesthesiologist since 1996. It has successfully enabled adults and children to receive their required treatment.
Dr. Mauricio Berco, DDS, DMSc, FRCD(C)
Dr. Mauri completed his orthodontic training at Harvard University where he received a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Doctorate of Medical Science (DMSc). Previously, he had earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) in human biology from the University of Toronto. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with several awards of distinction, including the Gordon Cressy Leadership Award, CDA Oral -B Scholarship, Human Anatomy Award, and T-Holders Academic Excellence Awards.
Following his training, Dr. Berco remained in Boston for several years where he worked as an orthodontic associate and continued to be actively involved in various research endeavors. His research interests expanded both in the medical and dental fields. Most recently he has been investigating the use of modern technology in orthodontic diagnosis.
In addition to his academic interests, Dr. Berco has always been involved in various sports including basketball, soccer, snowboarding and tennis. He enjoys exercising on a regular basis and spending time with his wife, Dr. Stephelynn DeLuca and their daughter Mia.
Doug McKittrick, Denturist/Dental Technician
Doug has recently joined the Simon Dental team to offer denture services to our patients.
Doug graduated from George Brown College, Dental Technology program in 1970. He has been practicing as a dentursist for over 35 years and enhanced his skills as a dental technician in 2004. Doug is diligient in maintaining his skills by attending continuing education seminars on a recurring basis to offer the most modern denture services available to his patients. Some recent seminars attended include infection control and implantology Doug is affiliated with our dental lab, Baluke Dental Studios as well as he attends three Retirement Villas in Toronto North to offer care to elderly patients living there.
Some of Dougs interests are skiing, sailing and providing services to the senior community.
